The Boys Choirs has not only been a positive interest story for the community but it has become an even greater interest story for us who serve them faithfully. We have had over 150 boys that have gone thru the ranks of the choir.

During that time we have received several calls from mothers reaching out to me personally to assist where their sons needed to be redirected or disciplined. Our Educational Director (ED) has personally developed a relationship with the boys to assure that they are surrounded with a good role model. He practically becomes the father figure for boys that come from single parent homes. He once received a call from a mother who said, “Help! He’s trying to shave and doesn’t know what to do.” Our ED came to the rescue. He not only teaches music and music theory, but his intent is to make boys presentable in society. Thus creating a platform for social skills, down to the very personal classes of how to shine shoes, how to tie a tie and taking boys out to local restaurants to teach them etiquette skills.

Producer, Songwriter, Musician, Innovator, Phenomenon, and Kansas City Boys Choir Alumni. All of these words describe Brian Kennedy Seals, Kansas City’s own international star!

At the age of four, Kennedy taught himself to play piano. Sensing his amazing talent, his parents immediately enrolled him in classical piano lessons. By age 18, he had already generated national interest as one of the top up-and-coming producers. Since then, Kennedy has been the music industry’s best-kept secret. Now, at age 23, the industry is buzzing and the word is out about the multi-faceted musician.

Since 2001, he has worked with over 100 artists, producers, songwriters, labels and networks, including: Universal Records, Raphael Saadiq, J-Records, Warner Bros., Interscope, Hidden Beach, Dr. Dre, Capital Records, Ciara, FOX, Fergie (of the Black Eyed Peas), The Pussycat Dolls, CNN, Omarion, Kelis, The Clipse, Angie Stone, Jill Scott, Glenn Lewis, Tank, Marques Houston, Mario Vasquez, Dirrty Entertainment, Luke & Q, J-Valentine, Lela James, Miguel, Bow Wow, Jackie Jackson, Nelly, and Will.I.Am (of the Black Eyed Peas).

He has also worked with award-winning entertainer Jamie Foxx, production powerhouses Harvey Mason Jr. and Damon Thomas (of the Grammy award-winning production team the Underdogs), Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds and legendary songwriter Diane Warren. Most recently, Kennedy’s talents have secured him a placement on multi-platinum recording artist Ciara’s sophomore CD ” The Evolution.” Kennedy produced and co-wrote “My Love,” which critics have labeled one of the hottest tracks on the project. While his credits read like a seasoned veteran, the young phenom is still etching his way to the top of his game.

And before he’s finished, Kennedy will likely be able to add yet another powerful word to his growing list of accomplishments… Legend!

A chorister that graduated last year, now resides in California called long distance to report that he just signed with a major record label, expressing his excitement for the large amount of money that he will be making.

He said that he is excited about coming back to the city and working with the choir on special music. Another chorister also now resides in California and scores music for major motion pictures. We have lots of wonderful success stories.

We have a really great organization with lots of history and a lot to offer not only the community but to those young people that are part of the organization. Unfortunately, we seem to be struggling financially and need a boost to go to the next level. The choir has plans to travel this year as it has done in the past. Visiting other boy choirs across the country and participating in youth festivals across the country.

Earnest McCoy

Spotlight on a former member:
Earnest McCoy

Earnest McCoy joined the Kansas City Boys Choir at the age of 13 and participated through high school. After graduating, he went on to earn a bachelor's in engineering and hired on with a local company. He currently serves on the Board for the choir.

When asked about his experience with the choir he says,"The choir taught me not to be afraid of getting in front of people and how to present myself. These are two skills that have proven invaluable throughout my life after the choir.

I can still hear Mr. Ah'Lee's voice when I do bad habits like putting my hands in my pocket! I have experienced the positive effects the choir has on the choristers, their families and the community. I also believe in Mr. Ah'Lee's vision.

These are the reasons I chose to give back to the organization by volunteering as a board member. It's amazing how far the choir has come since I was a member and I'm excited about where the choir is headed in the future!"

Kansas City Boys Choir

It is the mission of the Kansas City Boys Choir to provide a forum for developing and enhancing the mind and to bridge cultural gaps thru music in the classical boy choir tradition, service and scholarship.
